A North Korean soldier was captured on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine, appearing particularly small and thin.

The war caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has lasted nearly 32 months, with both sides suffering significant losses in supplies and manpower. At this moment, North Korea has sent regular troops to Russia for military training, with plans to deploy them on the eastern Ukrainian front to fill Russia’s manpower gap. However, some North Korean soldiers were captured by Ukrainian forces after being deployed to the Kursk battlefield, and related videos have surfaced online. At the same time, the lack of supplies in Russia is also reflected in the treatment of their soldiers.

The X user “Israel War” tweeted that North Korean troops have now been deployed by Russian forces to eastern Ukraine. In fact, after capturing a Ukrainian position, Russian soldiers were seen raising both Russian and North Korean flags alongside the North Korean troops, openly displaying their involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war. In response to North Korea’s movements, South Korea announced on the 21st that it would provide Ukraine with 155mm howitzers and shells to resist Russian attacks.

The X user “Sin City” also shared a video related to a North Korean soldier captured by Ukrainian forces. According to the video, Ukrainian forces ambushed a Russian foreign mercenary squad in the Donetsk region, killing eight soldiers in the battle, with only one thin man in oversized military clothing captured. This man turned out to be a North Korean soldier deployed to fight in eastern Ukraine.

“Sin City” commented that the North Korean soldier was noticeably shorter and thinner than other men of his age, attributing this to the Kim family’s three-generation rule of North Korea, which has failed to ensure that the people “get enough to eat and drink broth.”

The X user “MAKS 24” shared a video showing North Korean soldiers and female soldiers enthusiastically welcoming their supreme leader, Kim Jong Un. In the video, a large number of soldiers are seen jumping and raising their hands around Kim, excitedly taking photos with him, while a unit of female soldiers prepared a choir performance for Kim. This display highlighted Kim Jong Un’s status within North Korea. While “MAKS 24” refrained from commenting on the video content, many Western viewers were amazed by the over-the-top display.

Additionally, X user “Li Laoshi is not your teacher” posted a video showing the food rations provided to foreign mercenaries by Russian forces. In the video, a Chinese mercenary stated that he and his comrades waited for more than five days on the Bakhmut frontline before finally receiving a bag of supplies from the Russian army. The contents included a can of beef, two packs of cigarettes, a loaf of bread, three packs of soup powder, a pack of sugar, a pack of potato flakes, and a pack of coffee powder.
